All volunteers of Jefferson Matters: Main Street are invited to attend the annual volunteer appreciation party on Wednesday, February 21 at 5:30 pm at Meythaler Photography. Volunteers are welcomed to bring their spouse, partner or a guest for refreshments and socializing. Each committee will be recognizing a special volunteer at this event and the Board of Directors will name their 2017 Leadership Award recipient. This person will also be recognized at the Main Street Iowa Awards on April 13 at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines.
The Organization Committee hosts this annual party and will plan refreshments with the HomeTown Team theme. 3 Cheers for the Main Street Team is how we feel about the many people willing to share their time and talents for the success of our community.

Robin Bostrom, Main Street Iowa business specialist, will be the presenter for this overview of social media sources for business. Robin states, “Social media is certainly not the silver bullet but it has become a very important part of the marketing tool kit. Every community is different and in many cases a local newspaper or radio is still very important to the mix. Social media is also very cost effective especially for those businesses that do not have a large budget to spend on marketing. The main thing is to know where your target customer gets their information and then put together a campaign to reach them in the most cost effective way.”
This Business After Hours event will be held on Monday, February 26 at the Elk’s Lodge. The Economic Vitality committee of Jefferson Matters: Main Street invites anyone interested to attend. Social time will begin at 5:15 pm with a free drink courtesy of Greater Life Chiropractic with Dr. Phil Heisterkamp and snacks. The presentation will be from 5:45-6:30 pm. Handouts will be available and also available on the Jefferson Matters: Main Street website under Resources.

Main Street Iowa staff members hosted a professional development workshop on the use of social media. Director Peg Raney and Promotions chair Deb McGinn attended the day long event in Marshalltown. A number of short hand-outs were sent out that would be valuable to pass on to businesses wanted to branch out with their social media marketing. This is a great tool to reach potential and current customers.
The handouts are available on our website under Resources and called “Social Media Resources”. Feel free to use these resources and ask Peg & Deb for help.
