Greene County Development Corporation received an email notification a couple of weeks after the Iowa Great Place site visit by the committee. This is not a competitive application with those worthy of the designation receiving it after a review. It was a collaborative effort of GCDC, Jefferson Matters: Main Street, Greene County Chamber & Tourism, Thomas Jefferson Gardens, Greene County Schools, with support from various tourism sites in the county.
The letter stated, “Your application received careful consideration for designation during this cycle. While we are not able to award designation at this time, we applaud your community vision and desire to continue improving the vitality and quality of life for your citizens. We encourage you to consider an Iowa Great Places mentorship opportunity matching current designees with prospective applicants.”
We appreciate everyone who worked on this application and will consider whether to apply again. Although we are disappointed, it was a good process to go through for state recognition on the great things happening in Greene County.
