Jefferson was awarded one of six Main Street communities to host the traveling Smithsonian exhibition called Hometown Teams from August 11 – September 23, 2018. This exhibit will be located for the six weeks at the Greene County Historical Museum. Residents and visitors will have an opportunity to experience a real Smithsonian exhibition on a topic dear to many. Students will be able to participate in activities and explore our love of sports in our hometowns.
Residents and organizations from around Greene County are invited to participate. Window displays in the Masonic Lodge window on Wilson have included t-shirt quilts, roller hockey, wrestling, gymnastics, special Olympics, Little League, football, and cycling.
The communities other than Jefferson are invited to have a display in their own communities prior to the exhibit coming to Jefferson and then to have a small display in the Historical Museum during the six weeks.
The Greene County Historical Museum has hosted presentations about the impact of sports during their program year. The Jefferson Herald’s sports reporter, Brandon Hurley, has written numerous articles on sports around Greene County from past and recent years.
The Smithsonian Exhibition of HomeTown Teams will be open from August 11 – September 23 at the Greene County Historical Museum at 219 E Lincoln Way. Admission is free.
